On 16th January 2014, Samsung announced its latest innovation in the tablet category. They also revealed that the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite tablet would be available globally in white and black colours. However, the Korean giant didn’t mention any details about the cost for this version of Galaxy Tab 3 slate. Like the earlier Galaxy Tab 3, this Lite version comes with a 7 inch display.

There are many features in the new Lite version that are similar to the current Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. Samsung claims that this Lite edition has a slimmer and more portable design than the Tab 3.

The Tab 3 Lite is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor that gives fast and smooth processing speed. It offers a 7 inch display that provides a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Samsung has moved the menu bar from the screen to the bezel to shrink the size of the tablet. The screen resolution of this tablet is same as the original Galaxy Tab. Even though Samsung has mentioned the size of the processor for Lite version, they haven’t specified the type of the processor used. However, a manual for this device leaked online a day before Samsung’s announcement. This user manual claimed that the new Lite version has a Marvell PXA986 dual core chip which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. Currently, Samsung has not revealed any details of the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite’s release date and price.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite also offers various connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and 2G/3G networks. This is a Wi-Fi only model which includes 2G and 3G networks for mobile broadband. It offers 3G radio that supports HSPA download speeds up to 21 Mbps with uploads speed over 5.76 Mbps.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite has many amazing specifications. The best feature of this Lite version is that it runs on the Android 4.2 OS. It features an 8 GB of internal memory wherein the users can store media, documents and videos. The users can also get additional storage using microSD card which is expandable up to 32 GB. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Lite 3 also comes with a 2 MP sensor on the back. However, this tablet doesn’t provide a front facing camera. It is packed with a 3600 mAh battery which is expected to give eight hours of video playback.

As Samsung has not yet revealed the exact pricing details for Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, it is a bit difficult to determine whether it is a good tablet. However, there are many speculations about its pricing on the Internet. Only time will tell, whether this Lite version is aggressively priced and listed among the currently trending budget tablets.

Long gone are the days when phones flaunted the inherent candybar design. With Apple, Samsung and Nokia going neck to neck in creating impressive designs that pack a smart operating system and rich, vibrant displays, how could LG be far behind? You will be lying if you say you never looked at a phone and went, Woah, I wish this phone was curved. Even better, I wish it folded all the way through. The LG G Flex is all but a humble start to fulfilling this fantasy. But does it hold its ground in delivering that extra wow factor? Read on to get a quick glimpse of the LG G Flex.

A curved smartphone

Augmenting the curved phone era in smartphones is the latest LG G Flex. Everything about this phone screams for attention. And why not! It is, after all the first curved phone that went on sale in the United States of America. With an impressively sensuous design that grasps your attention from the word go, this curved phone from LG mesmerizes its users.

The talk of the town is that the phone’s ergonomic curved design is ideal as it matches your face while conversing over calls. Not that the microphone being a few centimeters closer to your mouth makes a difference, but hey! It’s cool.

The main advantage of the curved screen, however, is that is cuts down on the reflection. So, you get a crisp view of the screen and its content. No more do you have to squint to read under bright lighting conditions or run towards the darkness. You are thereby spared.

Downer display

The phone sports a 6-inch OLED screen that displays content at a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. While the display is decently good, it’s not all there. The first thing you notice is that LG Display, the pioneers in display technology, could make such a blunder. The screen has a grainy appearance, which more often than not, you will find irritating.

If you still feel like stabbing your eyes because of the bland paper-like display, you can turn the brightness all the way up. Then, it is hardly noticeable, and you can live with the guilt of having bought this phone. Then again, it’s a trade off as it consumes more of your battery.

The phone, however, epitomizes curvy design. You can try to flatten it against a surface, and it will bounce right back into its actual shape. Ain’t that something? It also flaunts a scratch-resistant resin back, which more than makes up for the okay display quality.

Powerful? Yes. Voice Mate and camera? Nah.

The phone packs the amazing Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor to give you an ultimate user-friendly experience. This processor works perfectly with Android’s Jelly Bean operating system. The applications run smoothly to provide a holistic smartphone experience.

The phone’s voice command, Voice Mate, however, cannot match with iPhone’s Siri and Samsung’s S Voice. The response is delayed, and that can be irksome. The phone’s 13 MP camera also leaves a lot to be desired. The images clicked appear hazy and on zooming, becoming even more blurry. This takes you right back to the era of VGA cameras.

Bottom Line

What’s Good

  • Slender curved design
  • Low reflections, which means a better view
  • Sturdy built and scratch-resistant body

What’s Bad

  • Substandard display quality
  • Disappointing camera and Voice control
  • Inoperable in one hand

The final verdict

The LG G Flex is a bold move; there is no denying. But while it has a smart, reflection-cutting curved screen, thanks to the phone’s major pitfalls in the display and camera department, the whole point of this phone seems superfluous. In the bargain of creating a revolutionary design, the creators dropped the ball on the basics. This makes you wonder, “Are curved phones the future of smartphone technology or a haphazard step back?”

How do you think the majority of students use their smartphones? Are they on Instagram, or do they Tweet, Poke, Like, Snapchat or Circle their friends throughout the day? Is it only texting or is there more to it? On the face of it, students seem to be so into their smartphones that they are almost divorced from the world as it is on the outside.

True as this may be, it’s only half the story.

It might surprise one to learn that students are using their smartphones in many interesting ways. To cut to the chase – students use their smartphones for taking tests, studying smartly, and talking to each other. In fact, most students are using their phones to study and not chat with their friends as most would think. The infographic below shares the vision about the future of students’ use of smartphones.

We would love to know about your take on tech assisted studies.

For many people in their childhood the word ‘computer’ was something only NASA had access to. With the onset of the IT revolution the word ‘personal’ got associated to the computer and made way into our offices, homes, schools and for some people, in their hearts.

Using laptops in colleges and universities is now a norm. However, that still hasn’t made way into the lower grades of the education chain. There could be various reasons for this, ranging from the financial feasibility to the archaic belief that devices in classrooms can be a source of distraction.

Imagine how enriching it would be to draw, write, and learn directly on your computer? While laptops are too heavy and expensive for kids to use, the 21st century paradigm shift, the Tablet, fits this bill with ease. Tablets are easy to use, interactive, affordable and totally practical.

While some educators are still skeptical about the possibility of tablets enhancing the learning process, here are some reasons how this shift can be interesting.

1. Paper Saving & Eco Friendly

Contrary to the popular method of saving the best for the last. It is important to address the key reason first. Textbooks are expensive and take a toll of the environment, and they are inefficient as well. Updating information in textbooks demands re-printing. eBooks solve this problem. Paper waste is minimized, along with the unnecessary time of collating, copying, and printing out documents that are disposed eventually. Imagine the amount of paper saved if a child went through 12 years of schooling using a tablet for all his e-books, papers, projects, and studies? That is a lot of paper! Also, the importance of being eco-friendly is inculcated from a tender age.

2. Interactive Learning

Learning with the aid of a tablet can be fun, interactive and very dynamic. Kids can learn to draw, learn and make music, create presentations, play interactive version of topics and even interact with other student across the globe. The availability of apps that promote engagement based learning is only rising. Possibly all subjects including science, geography, history, maths etc have apps and games dedicated to them. Imagine how quickly students would understand the Stone Age if it was an action packed game. Student can also be up-to-date with current affairs with news apps like CNN and other news feeds. Besides, getting a buy-in to use tablets easy, kids these days love gadgets.

3. Money Saving

Tablets may be an investment, but when you add up the cost and time of textbooks, you realize how quickly it pays itself back. Kids do not have to buy new printed textbooks each time the curriculum changes. They simply could download the latest curriculum. Tablets also offer other money saving benefits by integrating a camera and minimizing the cost of copying, ink, drawing tools, etc. Interestingly tablets come in wide range of pricing options.

4. Real Life Skills

After all those years of education on paper most people end up using computers in work spaces. Being proficient with computers in this day and age is as important as an actual degree. Doesn’t it make sense to have this skill developed right from the start? In addition to generic computer skills, there are fantastic apps that teach computer coding, software development, and other IT skills that can benefit them in the long run.

5. Accommodate Special Needs

For student who are deaf, and others handicaps (autism, Down syndrome, etc.) tablets can be a lifesaver. Their curriculum tailored through specific apps that help them learn through the faculties they have.
A student with autism may not be able interact with other children and express himself vocally, but maybe he could write it out in an online format? As tablets become more acceptable, we will start to see some more special education tools for educators.

  • Tablets

Gone are the days where teaching was limited to only textbooks and notebooks. Technology has made its way in to every aspect of our life including the way education is being imparted. Teachers can’t escape the emerging trend of technology in the classroom and terming it as a fad or a “hype” is an ignorant thing to do. More schools are looking at using tablets in the classroom.

If you wish to join this revolution, you’re at the right place. Here are a few tips for you to make the switch.

1. Look for Mobile-Friendly Curriculum

Ensure that the curriculum is tablet-friendly. Review your syllabus for the semester and identify interactive projects that are a natural fit for the tablet. PDFs and Word files are the best for sharing and annotation in the classroom.

2. Test Run your Content

Make sure that you practice before you deploy. Identify opportunities to utilize tablets, read reviews, cases studies and best practices to make the transition easy. It pays to be well informed. Beware that students already know how to use tablets. However, they may not know how it should be used for educational purposes. It is your job to have adequate rules and guidelines for tablet usage in class.

3. Be Prepared Of Compatibility Issues

Android Tablets, iPads & Windows tablets are different from each other. There are bound to compatibility issues across platforms. Make sure to test drive your chosen apps availability and compatibility on all the tablets your students may end up using. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Remember Murphy’s Law?

4. Students Could Find Better Resources than You.

Though it’s best that you take charge of developing and driving the overall plan for tablets in the classroom, it is a good idea to encourage students to demo new apps and mobile tech that they have discovered on their own. This allows for new idea generation, new course content, motivating student and also increases engagement.

5. Make Boundaries Clear

Limit internet access in class. It is easy to be distracted by Facebook, Twitter and emails coming in. If necessary, turn on “Airplane Mode” before handing out the tablets, or ask students to turn it on themselves if they are bringing their own devices. It will work wonders for engagement.

6. Organize the Content

Show students how to organize their digital work and school material. Store and share the course content on cloud storage. Make sure the content is organised in folders. Limit user privileges in terms of editing of the content if the need be. This is will ensure your sanity, help you stay in sync with class assignments, schedules, due dates and will also teach your students good organisation skills.

7. Encourage Collaboration

Collaboration is a great way to get students engaged in any classroom, and the portability and interactivity of tablets make them an excellent tool for this purpose. Students can collaborate, annotate and even correct each other’s work. The tablet can also be connected to a projector so that students can visibly see your content as well.

8. Drive the Paperless Goal

Drive and demonstrate how to be truly paperless. While fully “paperless classroom” is an idealist distant dream, minimizing the usage of paper in class is not. Lead by example; carry your notes and readings your tablet and also encourage students to do the same. Do everything electronically right from submitting assignment by email, to grading projects and also contacting parents of students.

9. Keep room for Offline Learning

While tablets can be exciting and engaging, students may suffer from burn out. Have room for tech time-outs. Make sure to get a right mix both digital interaction and conventional modes like pens, paper and chalkboard to keep things fun an interesting in class.

One of the most anticipated new Android Tablets coming out in 2012 – the Google Nexus 7 – has been officially unveiled. With this launch, the bar has now been raised in the smaller, lower-priced Android Tablet arena.

When you actually take the Nexus 7 out of the box, it looks like a tablet you would not be ashamed to take out in public. The Nexus 7 sports a 7-inch display and the tablet is on par with the competitors like the Amazon Kindle Fire and other Samsung Galaxy Tabs. It also offers some minor advantages related to screen resolution and battery life.  It looks fresh, of course, and runs on a newer Android software version – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sharpness and slightly higher resolution screen, sets it apart from its predecessors.Nexus-300x251.jpeg

  • Design & Display
The Google Nexus 7 by Asus is the world’s first 7-inch quad core tablet to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.  It boasts a design that is similar to most 7-inch tablets available in the market. It has a scratch resistant Corning Glass and a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The other physical features include Power/Lock button, Volume Rocker, Headphone Jack, Microphone Pin Hole and Micro USB Port.
  • Multimedia
Since it has a better resolution screen and a fast performing Quad-core processor, the Google Nexus promises excellent entertainment experience. The speakers at the back deliver good quality sound and the viewing angles are top-notch. It supports MP3, WMA and MPEG-4 file formats. You can now enjoy watching videos or listening to your favourite music.
  • Storage & Battery
The tablet will give around 9 hours of battery life while playing HD video. It comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory. For those looking for more storage capacity, this may be a drawback, as the device does not come with any external memory option. However, they have the option of buying the 16GB device by paying a little more than the regular Google Nexus 8GB tab.
  • Features &  Connectivity
It has GPS chips for use with navigation software as well as one for near-field communications. Google Nexus 7 is deeply integrated into the Google ecosystem. It comes with many Google apps like Google Music, Chrome, Google Plus, Google Maps and Gmail. Google Nexus 7 also features project Butter, which optimizes the system to run at a consistent 60fps. Google Now is one of the best features in Android 4.1 Jellybean. It is Google’s answer to Apple’s Siri. Google Now learns about you, the route you take to office, the music you listen to, the sports you follow etc. and generates information cards, which it thinks would be relevant for you.

The Nexus 7 tablet by Google is indeed an impressive entrant in the Tablet market and is a great gadget for the price. With so much buzz around and grand features to back it up, it seems to be a tab worth laying your hands on.

After a much talked-about introduction in June, Microsoft finally entered the Tablet arena with the launch of the Surface tab. The Surface tab runs on an ARM CPU and features the Windows RT operating system. Among a few limitations of the Surface RT tab was the lack of an Intel CPU, and the lack of the full version of Windows 8.

In January 2013, Microsoft will unleash the Pro version of the Microsoft surface to deal with the shortcomings that the RT tab has. The Surface Pro is seemingly an attempt to reinvent laptop computing. Although its design is similar to that of the Surface RT tablet with a 10.6-inch touch-screen display, magnet-connected keyboard cover, the Surface Pro ships with a full-fledged, third-generation Intel Core i5 processor. And it also features the full version of Windows 8, as well as the ability to run regulation desktop PC software.

While the Surface primarily concentrates on multitasking and productivity, it is still a media-friendly device. The Windows 8 interface offers various services and apps, including two apps which plug into Xbox Music and Xbox Video apps. The Surface Tab allows you to make movie purchase and rentals, and the Music app allows free streaming of 30 million tracks, with a subscriptions model similar to Spotify.

The Surface Tab offers a 16:9 aspect ratio which in conducive to optimum viewing of TV and movies. It also offers the Windows Store and the built-in Xbox Store to let you download a multitude of apps. That said, the selection of movies is too US-centric and on the expensive side.

The Windows Surface Tab supports micro HDMI, allowing you to connect it to your TV or external display. One ace up the Surface sleeve is that the tab lets you enjoy all kinds of media files and lets you load them via USB or a Micro SD card, unlike Apple’s iTunes software which has those limitations.

The Microsoft Surface tab lays emphasis on a lot of DLC for apps with preloaded apps, and the Windows Store, which is the Google Play of Microsoft. Having an app store puts the Surface in direct competition with the iPad. That said, the Windows store could do more with more apps on store. It can be safely said that the Windows store is not the wide market of a multitude of apps that it will be in the near future. This is due to the lack of big brand names and quite a motley crew of apps.

Microsoft is reported to have put $1bn behind the marketing of Windows 8. In an ideal situation, just a fraction of this money could have been used to get big app brands onto the platform.

Microsoft Surface works as a capable gaming device. The supported games are interesting, and as the Windows store build up, there will be many more on offer.

The 32 GB Microsoft Surface RT offers only 16 GB of storage space to users. This is because the remainder of memory is used to install the Windows RT operating system as well as pre-installed apps such as the much dreaded Internet explorer, Microsoft Office home & student, as well as the Xbox media apps. This is quite the downer as Google’s 32 GB Nexus 10 tablet offers 27 GB of storage space at first use. Similarly, the 64 GB Microsoft Surface only has 46 GB of free space, while the 64 GB third-generation 9.7-inch iPad offers more than 56 GB of free space. Microsoft defends this situation by stating that the Surface has a Micro SDXC card slot that lets you used to expand the storage space of the tablet.

So it’s a pretty tight call as far as storage on the Microsoft Surface goes. Push comes to shove, users can free up 4 GB of space by deleting the Surface’s recovery partition and creating a backup bootable USB. One can only wait for the 63 GB and 128 GB variants of the Microsoft Surface pro to be out to identify the usable storage space that it offers.

The Microsoft Surface is a potentially amazing tablet. Notice how we say potentially. That is because while it has the tools, it lacks the platform to execute them. While it has the speed, it lacks high-brand heavy duty app support. We can only wait for the Surface pro come out to eradicate the shortcomings that the Surface RT has.

Giving your children access to technology has always been a million-dollar question. The dilemma becomes worse when it comes to gifting your child a tablet. It is crucial to be technologically updated and here are ten reasons why you should allow your kids to use a tablet.

1. Imposing restrictions

When we were young, our parents inhibited us from watching the R-rated films. But we still watched them at our friend’s place. It is better to let your kid use tablet phones so that you can decide what content is appropriate for him/her.

2. Resolving problems

Kids don’t back down if they are not able to accomplish something. If your children like to sketch and have a desire to learn new things, a tablet phone is a wise pick. They can watch tutorials on how to sketch a cat and know about the art all by themselves without the guidance of parents.

3. Lacking technology skills

Do you know what happens to people who are technologically impaired? Lacking technology skills can lead to unemployment, and you definitely don’t want your kids to go that way.

4. Electronic-learning in school

We live in a post-modern era, where even school kids are well-accustomed to tablet phones. Today, even second-graders make posters of animals with embedded QR codes, which can get redirected to a GLOG (graphics blog). This can be easily achieved via tablets!

5. Creating interest

After food, clothing and shelter, technology has become our basic need as well. This very need needs to be metamorphosed into interest. We have reached a level one could have never imagined because of technology. Kids can effortlessly sketch on tablets, learn different languages and practically do everything.

6. Caring about your child’s mental agility

Not many of us know the benefits of being in a virtual world. In fact, video games can enhance our problem-solving ability, making us faster and smarter.

7. Changing statistics

Statistically speaking, only 12% of computer science degrees go to girls. Women are less likely to enter the technology domain; however, wouldn’t you want your kid to explore this lucrative field?

8. Balancing every aspect of technology life

Technology is not our life; it is just a part of our life. It is important to let your child set aside enough time every day beyond the world of technology and indulge in extra-curricular activities.

9. Reading

Encourage your children to read books on their Windows tablet or Android tablet. Be it newspapers or books, every aspect of reading has been transfigured into electronics.

10. Moving along with the times

Youngsters are unfailingly drawn towards tablets. To be honest, we need to learn with them and evolve simultaneously with time. Therefore, don’t ban your kids from using a tablet as our mind space has become cyberspace.

Do not hesitate to tell people that kids need to be as updated as adults in terms of technology. Share this article and change their opinions.

  • Tablets

Some of the recently released small tablets are offering portability and immersive experience, which are considered better than the smartphones. So, looking at the mobile trends, one starts wondering whether the tablets will soon be replacing the smartphones.

Dependence on mobile media is growing

Nowadays, traditional videos like movies, TV shows or YouTube content are readily available on the mobile devices. So, you might think, won’t it be better to watch video content on a high-definition screen, which is portable to use. It looks like this is the reason that is driving the desire to opt for larger smartphone screens.

Voice on a tablet is a good feature

Tablets come with speakerphones, wired headphones and Bluetooth headsets. These devices are useful for taking calls on tablets. If you see, Galaxy Tab comes with cellular voice capabilities that can be used for making calls.

User interface moves beyond pocketable screens

Voice interaction has steadily become a part of the digital world. This technology is yet in the early stages from the point of view of the end-user. However, some devices feature this technology. For instance, Siri or cars are using apps and connectivity for hands-free calling through smartphones or tablets. In the future, it is possible that Siri could become the invisible interface.

Even though tablets have the same features as smartphones, they provide a better experience for browsing, apps or email. In fact, there isn’t a single digital activity that you will find better on smartphone than on a tablet. Most of the tablets available these days allow you to do GPS navigation, web browsing, gaming, reading and many more activities the same way you would do on smartphones. These activities are likely to improve more and enhance the tablet market.

Judging is done based on today’s use cases

Most people argue that they can’t put a tablet in their pocket like a smartphone. However, you need to think of the actual amount of time your smartphone stays in your pocket. The answer is very less, and it’s because they are used more often. Rather than thinking about whether a tablet can fit in your pocket, you need to think about future and know that you will be carrying it with you. The demand for apps, mobile web and cloud-stored data is continually increasing, which is another indication that people with be more connected in the future. So, it looks like people will rely on mobile devices more than they do now. A few years back, laptop was considered to be a portable device to take anywhere. However, now, tablets also provide laptop-like features, last whole day on a single charge and are easier to carry around.

You must be thinking that this blog is about the iPad versus Nexus 7 or some other tablet that are currently available in the market. In reality, it is about the latest available tablets and additional features they may offer in the future.

The latest offering from Samsung is the new and improved Galaxy Tab 3. This newest entrant is slimmer, narrower and has a thinner bezel, which makes it easy for handling. It is lighter in weight and doesn’t compromise on its performance. This Tab runs on a powerful dual core processor and provides users with dual cameras. It enables users to take the benefit of downloading more apps from Samsung and Google. The users can also make use of the 50 GB Dropbox storage for free.

In addition, the South Korean giant has also launched the Galaxy Tab 3 series which includes three new tablets for the Indian market. Samsung which is known for its amazing innovations has gone ahead and launched these tablets with 7-inch and 8-inch screen sizes. Below, the amazing features of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 have been highlighted, along with conclusions to help you understand whether it is worth a purchase.

Design and Build

Like every other innovation of Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 is made with out-of-the-box features, which make it one of the high-end tablets available today. This tablet has been made as a blown-up version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Grandsmahones. The main difference between these smartphones and the Tab 3 is that it has a 7-inch display which is surrounded by grey trims giving it quite a decent look.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 is made with slippery plastic material that can be found in most of its smartphones and tablets. It weighs 304 grams that makes it quite lightweight and has 1 cm thickness due to which it is quite comfortable to hold. The front of this tablet displays three buttons below the display which include the hardware button for home and two capacitive buttons for back, along with the options menu. A 1.3 megapixel camera is on the top front side of the tablet which is perfect for video chats and self portraits. A speaker, the light and proximity sensor are lined alongside the camera. There are stereo speakers, micro USB port and a 3.5 mm audio jack on the bottom of this tablet.

The other physical buttons on the tablet include a volume rocker and a power button which are placed on its right side, while there are two slots for SIM card and micro SD card on its left side. The Galaxy Tab 3 T211 has a primary camera on its back panel which is glossy and has a slippery feel to it. As opposed to most other tablets, Samsung provides its customers with the facility to make calls with the help of an integrated microphone.

The best aspect of this tablet would be the 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and pixel density of 169 ppi. This tablet gives touch competition to its 7-inch rivals even when its resolution is lower than them, as in the case of Nexus 7 having resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The colour reproduction on the display of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 doesn’t show accurate colours. Since it has low resolution, the images and videos appear less sharp though the screen, and is quite good for reading e-books and magazines. Its screen is quite reflective causing visibility issues in sunlight. The touch sensitivity of this tablet is quite good making it easy to operate.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 features a 3 megapixel rear camera without flash. It provides average picture quality and is not ideal for serious photography. The users have to shoot pictures with on-screen buttons as there is no hardware button dedicated for the camera. The absence of flash causes issues when shooting in low light conditions. It is slow to focus and produces quite noisy and low quality images. This tablet’s camera app provides loads of shooting options, such as single shot, panorama, share photo, buddy photo share and smile shot. It also comes equipped with a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera that is great for video chats and self-portraits.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 runs on the buttery smooth Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and has Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. As per most Samsung Tab 3 T211 reviews, it is a bit disappointing that this tablet still runs on Android 4.1 when Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is already available in the market. It is hoped that Samsung would soon roll out a firmware update for this tablet. The TouchWiz UI has an apps section on the bottom right side of the home screen where it is subdivided into three sections namely, apps, widgets and downloaded apps. The top area of the notification tray is dedicated to quick access settings such as sync, blocking mode, mobile data, Bluetooth, screen rotation, sound, GPS, Wi-Fi and power saving mode.

This user interface of this tablet sports three home screens and can be further customized by the user to have app shortcuts and widgets. Another feature added by Samsung is the blocking mode that allows users to disable alarm, incoming calls and other such notifications when they don’t want to be disturbed. The default Android apps for Calender, Browser and Email have also been changed though its re-worked versions don’t have any added features.

Even though Samsung doesn’t provide many pre-loaded apps, the built-in apps available on this tablet are great for entertainment, social and office use. This tablet provides the usual Google Search along with a new Jelly Bean feature, Google Now which is a voice-based information assistant and extension of Google Search. This app uses cards that give information, such as weather forecast, directions, traffic information, scores, appointments and currency conversion.

Lately, Samsung has also been providing some smart functions on its devices and it was hoped that Galaxy Tab 3 would also come with some new features, but it actually does miss on some basic apps as well such as Smart Stay, Multi Window, Reading Mode and Group Play.

Performance/Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211 is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor with 1 GB RAM. It has 8 GB in-built storage and supports expandable microSD card storage up to 64 GB. The dual core processor gives fairly good and smooth performance to the user and doesn’t cause the tablet to crash often. This tablet tends to give frequent lags when navigating through the app menu or while loading an app. It also gives issues when playing heavy-graphic games such as Vector, Dead Trigger and Temple Run 2.

The 7-inch display of the Galaxy Tab 3 211 is great for viewing movies and videos. It can play full HD videos and supports various video formats, such as avi, mov, mp4 and much more. This tab comes with the same music player as the previous Galaxy Tab range and has twin loudspeakers that give loud and clear sound. The on-screen keyboard of this tablet does not have crammed keys, and make it easy to type using both the hands.

This tablet serves as a great surfing device and loads web pages faster for browsing. It also supports flash enabling users to watch YouTube easily, and has the dialer feature which is similar to the one on Galaxy smartphones. It comes with a 4000 mAh battery that is adequate for playing music, browsing the web and watching videos. The Samsung Tab 3 enables users to get long lasting battery life even when doing all the heavy operations.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 T211 has the same music and video player that is available on the previous Galaxy devices. This tablet has been re-designed so as to take advantage of the bigger screen. It gives users the facility to sort the music based albums, artists, folders or music square. The users can also group their favourite songs according to their moods such as exciting, joyful, calm and passionate. This tablet has speakers that give decently loud audio which is enhanced with a pair of headphones. The video player supports various formats, including MP4 and MKV though the MOV and FLV files cannot be played on it. It allows users to play full HD 1080 p videos smoothly, and also enables the use of the new Pop up play feature.

As mentioned in most of the Samsung Tab 3 T211 reviews, it is a great tablet and can be handled easily with one hand. It is worthwhile to buy the Samsung Tab 3 for its responsive touch-screen and decent battery life. It surely has some flaws like the low resolution display and below average camera, lack of FM radio and lag during multitasking and gaming. Even though it has less pre-loaded apps from Samsung, users can easily check out the Google Play store and download a wide range of apps.

Google has already launched its Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat, but there is no news yet about the release of Nexus 10 (2013) tablet. The rumour mills going over the weekend claim that the Korean tech company, LG will be manufacturing Google large size 10.1 inch tablet. This reflects that Google has distanced itself from Samsung who had manufactured the first generation Nexus 10 tablet that was released last November.

LG had earlier manufactured the Nexus 5 phone for Google, while Nexus 7 tablet was manufactured by Asus. Google Nexus 7 slates have always been head turners because of their sleek and compact design. The first Nexus 10 which was released with Google Nexus 7 featured a large 10.1 inch display and Android Jelly Bean OS.

Google had unveiled the Nexus 10 slate a year ago, which enabled many tech gurus to understand its functionality and usefulness. Currently, speculations are rife that Nexus 10 is expected to make its debut in the coming weeks. It is being hoped that Google will keep the pricing of its predecessor in mind when releasing the 16 GB variant for India.

There have been many rumours going around about the most anticipated Google Nexus 10. Hence, we have rounded up all the speculated details about the release date and price of Google Nexus 10 in India.

When Nexus 7 was launched in July 2013, Google had let the information slip about a new version of Nexus 10. However, even after many months, there was no sign of Nexus 10 (2013). This caused consumers to wonder why the launch of the tablet was delayed.
Soon, Google announced in September that they were launching the next version of Android called, 4.4 KitKat. Even this announcement didn’t highlight anything about the release date for Google Nexus 10. In October, Apple unveiled its new iPad models, including iPad Air but even then Google was silent about the new tablet.

There is no confirmation about the exact release date of Google Nexus 10 in India, but it looks like it will be unveiled along with Nexus 5. Last year, Nexus 10 was launched with Nexus 4 on October 29. However, it has been more than a year, yet Google has not unveiled Nexus 10 (2013). The arrival of October also brought no news about the launch. But now, rumours are claiming that it will be released in December.
Apart from the release date, Google has also not revealed the price of Nexus 10 (2013).

After partnering with Google, Samsung had manufactured the first Nexus 10 tablet. Currently, rumours suggest that Asus who had manufactured the Nexus 7 models will be making the 2013 Nexus 10. The first Nexus 10 had impressive specifications, which made it an instant hit when it released last year. This has increased the expectations of the users for Nexus 10 2013. Like the first Nexus 10, the newer version is expected to have a similar 10.1 inch screen with whopping 2560 x 1600 resolution. The rumours suggest that it will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset with 2 GB RAM. It is also a possibility that Google Nexus 10 (2013) will have an internal storage of 32 GB. There was another leak on PhoneArena that this tablet would have a Snapdragon 800 chip, 3 GB RAM and 8 MP camera. The only thing that is certain is that this tablet will come pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The tablet market has grown quite exponentially in the past few years, so much so that now people prefer tablets over personal computers, and even laptops. A tablet can virtually do everything that your laptop does and over that, it provides the ease of working with a touchscreen.
If you are in the market, you will surely be confused with the range of tablets available. Hence, to make an informed choice, you must be aware of some essential things before buying a tablet.

apple-ipad-300x179.jpgOperating system

This is a key consideration and you have quite a few options to choose from. Currently there are four operating systems available, namely, Google Android, Blackberry, Apple iOS and Microsoft windows. Apple iOS is the exclusive OS of Apple products. You won’t get it on non-Apple devices. Same goes for Blackberry. The most widely used OS is Google Android and has the same feel as that of Apple iOS, but the two are still different in many respects.

The other thing to look for is the storage capacity of the tablet, which ranges from 1GB to as high as 500 GB. Though most tablets come with an extendable micro SD card slots, it is an important point to consider because you can’t change the internal memory.

Battery life

Another important thing that can’t be missed is the battery life since tablets are portable units. Do keep in mind that there are two kinds of battery lives. One is the life in sleep mode and the other when it is in use. Check and double check the number of hours your battery can provide you backup for.

Inputs and outputs

Tablet is an advanced device. Hence, most of the connections will have to be made through wireless network. Nevertheless, a lot of tablets are equipped with a 3.5 mm jack and a docking port to connect it with a keyboard. Also note that you won’t find any such thing in an Apple tablet. So, make the choice accordingly.

All the tablets come with either one or two cameras. One of them acts like a webcam and the other is a rear camera that can be used to click pictures. The quality of the camera is almost the same as what we get in smartphones and the resolution is normally upwards of 4 MP.

The Asus Transformer Book T200TA-C1-BL is a compact detachable-hybrid tablet. It comes with a good In-Plane switching (IPS) touch screen and can be used either like a laptop or a tablet by just detaching the screen.

Even with the connected keyboard, the ASUS transformer book is quite compact. Measuring about 1*12*8 inches and weighing about 3.3 pounds, this tablet is all set to become the new darling of the tech consumer. When you undock the screen, the weight comes down to 1.69 pounds. You can do it by just pushing a single button in the centre of a one piece hinge. The lock is mechanical which can make a few people feel more secure, who don’t like the magnetic latch on other hybrid tablets.

For a hybrid tablet, ASUS provides excellent connectivity. Equipped with a full size Ethernet port, a USB 2.0 port and a USB 3.0 port on the keyboard, connectivity will never be a problem with this tablet. It also comes with a headset jack, a micro HDMI port and a microSD card reader. In short, ASUS provides more ports in total than other tablets in the same range.

Like many other sealed tablets, it doesn’t come with the option of upgradable solid-state drive or memory, but a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive can still be installed. To install the hard disc you will ah veto keep the screen docked to the keyboard, but once done you can carry your files in the tablet portion, supplemented with 64GB SSD. It is a great thing, since, like with most tablets, the storage space can be an issue with some people.

Coming to the keyboard, it is a QWERTY full size and non-backlit. It is provided with a large touchpad in the centre that makes it really comfortable to use. The screen is fantastic and responsive to the touch. The volume of the in-built speakers is soft but with headphones gives a satisfying listening experience.

Performance wise, Asus Transformer Book is equipped with Intel Atom Z3795 processor with Intel HD graphics. The performance is roughly equal to that of HP stream and Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series. Multimedia scores are excellent with 14:13 on Adobe Photoshop.

Battery life is quite adequate and won’t ever be a hassle, with tests suggesting that it lasts about 5 hours once fully charged.
