On 16th January 2014, Samsung announced its latest innovation in the tablet category. They also revealed that the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite tablet would be available globally in white and black colours. However, the Korean giant didn’t mention any details about the cost for this version of Galaxy Tab 3 slate. Like the earlier Galaxy Tab 3, this Lite version comes with a 7 inch display.
There are many features in the new Lite version that are similar to the current Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. Samsung claims that this Lite edition has a slimmer and more portable design than the Tab 3.
The Tab 3 Lite is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor that gives fast and smooth processing speed. It offers a 7 inch display that provides a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Samsung has moved the menu bar from the screen to the bezel to shrink the size of the tablet. The screen resolution of this tablet is same as the original Galaxy Tab. Even though Samsung has mentioned the size of the processor for Lite version, they haven’t specified the type of the processor used. However, a manual for this device leaked online a day before Samsung’s announcement. This user manual claimed that the new Lite version has a Marvell PXA986 dual core chip which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. Currently, Samsung has not revealed any details of the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite’s release date and price.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite also offers various connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and 2G/3G networks. This is a Wi-Fi only model which includes 2G and 3G networks for mobile broadband. It offers 3G radio that supports HSPA download speeds up to 21 Mbps with uploads speed over 5.76 Mbps.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite has many amazing specifications. The best feature of this Lite version is that it runs on the Android 4.2 OS. It features an 8 GB of internal memory wherein the users can store media, documents and videos. The users can also get additional storage using microSD card which is expandable up to 32 GB. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Lite 3 also comes with a 2 MP sensor on the back. However, this tablet doesn’t provide a front facing camera. It is packed with a 3600 mAh battery which is expected to give eight hours of video playback.
As Samsung has not yet revealed the exact pricing details for Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, it is a bit difficult to determine whether it is a good tablet. However, there are many speculations about its pricing on the Internet. Only time will tell, whether this Lite version is aggressively priced and listed among the currently trending budget tablets.
Sony has recently announced its newest innovation, Xperia Z1 Compact, which is the most technologically advanced small Android phone. In many ways, it is similar to Sony’s top-end Xperia Z1. As opposed to Xperia Z1 phone’s palm stretching 5 inch screen, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact features a 4.3 inch display. Let’s check out the many amazing features offered by this mobile phone.
Design and build quality
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has an almost identical body as Xperia Z1. It measures 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm and weighs only 137 g. This mobile phone comes with the all-glass front and back with the one-piece aluminium band that runs around the edge. It has chunky power button poking out of its side with a dedicated camera shutter button just below it. This phone looks gorgeous and has a sleek design with metal band that curves gently at the edges to meet the screen. It is covered with glass panels on the back and front that make it susceptible to scratches. However, you can easily avoid this by ensuring that you don’t carry it in the same pocket as your keys.
The latest Android phone is available in various bright colours such as hot pink and vibrant lime green. The Xperia Z1 Compact comes with the waterproof feature due to which it is not harmed when water gets spilt on it. It can also work properly when left under water at one metre depth for up to 30 minutes. The camera shutter button comes in handy under water as it won’t be able to register your finger when you tap the screen to take a photo.
The bezels on the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact are slimmer than the standard Z1, so they help in maximizing the display size. Also, it is a full 17 mm shorter and 9 mm narrower when compared with the regular Xperia Z1. As such, the Compact is easier to hold in one hand and put in your jeans pocket. It provides 16 GB of internal storage that can be easily expanded using a microSD card slot. This micro SD card slot is placed under a waterproof flap.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact comes with a 720p Full HD display. Its 4.3 inch screen offers 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and 342 ppi of pixel density. Since this phone has a small sized screen, it doesn’t need many pixels to display sharp and clear pictures. The icon edges displayed on the screen are crisp while the small text on the Web pages is easily readable. This phone’s screen is packed with IPS display technology that delivers bold colours and great viewing angles without making it look over-saturated.
Software and processor

This combination delivers a massive serving of power which will allow you to experience fast and smooth operation. The high-end graphics processor Adreno 330 used in this phone will let you play demanding games such as Dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8 and GT Racing 2. You can easily swipe around the Android interface and switch between open apps due to its swift multitasking capability.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is equipped with a 20.7 megapixel camera like the larger Z1. Since the Z1’s camera captures excellent shots with the same sensor and optics, there is no doubt that Compact will also perform well on the camera front. Its superb camera sensor offers excellent overall exposure with rich colours and plenty of detail. You will be able to use its automatic mode that balances the dark and bright areas easily. It captures all the fine details of the subject with maximum clarity and rich colours. This camera also offers picture effect settings like sweep panorama mode that will allow you to shoot impressive panoramic views.
This phone comes with various effect modes such as kaleidoscope and augmented reality mode. The augmented reality mode allows you to experiment with different photo effects which you can apply to superimpose on the photo. You can rapidly tap the on-screen camera button to take two shots per second. This feature is usually seen on high-end smartphones like iPhone 5 and HTC One. The Xperia Z1 Compact phone also comes with a burst mode that lets you to shoot 20 shots quickly. This mobile phone also provides a 2 MP front facing camera that is perfect for video-calling.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact mobile phone is packed with a 2,300 mAh battery. It provides long-lasting battery life. However, you will have to use this phone wisely as the screen causes the battery to drain faster. The battery power holds well in the standby mode or if you are using it for basic stuff like sending and receiving emails, texts, bit of web browsing and shooting a few photos. However, if you like to play loads of games throughout the day then this phone’s battery may start draining fast. So, if you use it sparingly and turn off power-hungry background tasks like Wi-Fi and GPS, you will be able to get battery power that lasts throughout the day.
Here is our final verdict:
The good: The small size of this phone makes it comfortable to use. It features a powerful processor, good camera and decent battery life. It has a sturdy build and waterproof design.
The bad: Currently, it is not upgradeable to the latest Android version. Also, some of the Sony’s software tweaks don’t make a difference in the overall performance.
The bottom line: It is dubbed as one of the best mobile phones as it comes with a powerful processor, excellent camera, decent screen and amazing, waterproof design. All these impressive features are enough to make you buy this fabulous Xperia Z1 Compact phone.

This reflects that Google has distanced itself from Samsung who had manufactured the first generation Nexus 10 tablet that was released last November.
LG had earlier manufactured the Nexus 5 phone for Google, while Nexus 7 tablet was manufactured by Asus. Google Nexus 7 slates have always been head turners because of their sleek and compact design. This caused consumers to wonder why the launch of the tablet was delayed. Soon, Google announced in September that they were launching the next version of Android called, 4.4 KitKat. In October, Apple unveiled its new iPad models, including iPad Air but even then Google was silent about the new tablet.
There is no confirmation about the exact release date of Google Nexus 10 in India, but it looks like it will be unveiled along with Nexus 5. Last year, Nexus 10 was launched with Nexus 4 on October 29. However, it has been more than a year, yet Google has not unveiled Nexus 10 (2013). The arrival of October also brought no news about the launch. But now, rumours are claiming that it will be released in December. Apart from the release date, Google has also not revealed the price of Nexus 10 (2013).
After partnering with Google, Samsung had manufactured the first Nexus 10 tablet. Currently, rumours suggest that Asus who had manufactured the Nexus 7 models will be making the 2013 Nexus 10. The first Nexus 10 had impressive specifications, which made it an instant hit when it released last year. This has increased the expectations of the users for Nexus 10 2013. Like the first Nexus 10, the newer version is expected to have a similar 10.1 inch screen with whopping 2560 x 1600 resolution. The rumours suggest that it will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset with 2 GB RAM. It is also a possibility that Google Nexus 10 (2013) will have an internal storage of 32 GB. There was another leak on PhoneArena that this tablet would have a Snapdragon 800 chip, 3 GB RAM and 8 MP camera. These days, tablets have become one of the most sought-after devices. Like smartphones, they have many amazing features that enhances the overall user experience. However, the availability of a wide range of tablet options has made it difficult to choose the most suitable one. If you too are confused about choosing the perfect tablet for yourself, then read along:
Here, we have given some tips which will help you in buying the tablet that is most suitable for your needs.
When choosing a particular tablet, the first thing that you need to decide is the type of OS you require. The three main types of tablet operating systems include the iOS, Android and Windows. More information about these types of tablet OS, along with their pros and cons have been mentioned below.
1. Apple iOS
Apple had revolutionized the way tablets perform with its original iPad, which runs on the iOS operating system. The iOS based systems are the easiest to operate, which makes it ideal for those who are new to computing. The latest Apple offering is the iOS 7 which has been completely redesigned and includes some useful features like easier access to multitasking. The biggest advantage of iOS is that if you face any kind of issues with it, you can directly contact the experts at an Apple Store and get it resolved immediately. Even though this tablet OS is not full featured like Android, it is far easier to use. An iPad running on iOS provides users with the undefeated advantage of the Apple’s App Store. It offers millions of great quality apps and digital magazines in the categories of fitness, cooking, productivity, gaming and more.
2. Google Android
You can experience loads of advantages from a tablet running on Android. Android based tablets give users the benefit of customizability, so they can alter the look of their home screen based on their preference. It offers access to Google Play Store, which offers a huge array of apps and games to Android users. Android also provides full support for user profiles. This will enable you to lock certain apps and settings to avoid any unwanted access. This security feature is available only in Android version 4.3 or later. Another benefit of tablets running on Android is that they are priced at a much more reasonable rate as compared to any iPad.
3. Microsoft Windows
Windows is known to be the most widely used operating system for computers and laptops. However, only the Windows 8 OS is compatible with tablets. Currently, there are two versions of Windows OS available for tablets, Windows 8 and Windows RT. The Windows 8 is a touch-based OS, which is similar to the full-flat Windows operating system used in a home PC or laptop. It is a powerful OS but is more expensive, heavier and has less battery life as compared to Android or iOS running tablets. Windows RT is a cut-down version of Windows 8 which utilizes less power and provides long-lasting battery life. The tablets running on Windows are most suitable to those who require full Office access.
Tablets are smaller and lighter versions of laptops, which is the main reason for their growing popularity. Usually, users prefer two kinds of screen sizes for tablets – 7 inch and 10 inch. When you are choosing a tablet based on its screen size, you need to determine how exactly you will be using it. For instance, if you are going to be carrying it wherever you go, it is preferable to buy a 7-inch tablet which is smaller and lighter than the 10-inch model. Even though both kinds of tablets are good for web browsing, their performance differs considerably for other tasks like reading, playing games and watching videos. Another factor you need to consider when you want to buy a tablet online is its price. To be precise, we can say that a 7-inch tablet is more affordable than a 10-inch model. At the same time, iPads are more expensive as compared to Android tablets.
It is important to keep the above mentioned tips in mind when buying a tablet. One also need to consider other factors, such as screen resolution and storage space. Screen resolution determines how clear a screen is and the way it affects your viewing experience. There are many 7-inch tablets that come with a Full HD screen, which is brighter and less reflective in sunlight. There are also many 10-inch tablets featuring higher resolution displays with razor sharp and readable text to give you the ultimate tablet experience. Storage, which is measured in gigabytes (GB) is another important factor to considered while buying a tablet. Generally, users opt for tablets with 32 GB internal memory, along with a microSD card that offers expandable memory. Such tablets are available at a very reasonable price. There are some Android and Windows tablets that don’t have a microSD slot, which leads to only a limited amount of storage. Also, iPads don’t provide this option, so it becomes quite expensive for people who need extra storage.
Before deciding on which tablet to buy, you need to determine your budget. Keeping your budget in mind, select the appropriate operating system. After that, select the screen size of the tablet that is suitable for your usage. Before you buy a tablet, you should also decide on how much storage you require and whether you need 4G data or not.
